Pink Pony

News from Pink, a remote location, near the world-famous icebergs of the South Pacific. What is it really like living on the earth's surface in the South Pacific where you are kept warm by a nuclear reactor, and hang in space suspended by the forces of gravity and the speed of light? I wonder?

The 2004 Pink Pony Annual Christmas Book Guide and Reviews

Here is the Pink Pony Guide to all types of literature, from geekiness to parallel worlds. From mystery, rookie journalism, New Zealand literary greats, how to ask a "visiting celebrity" what they thought of Australia (Pilger, 1989), what to cook for a cold winter night, sci-fi climate change, to one of the greatest classics for children and adults alike in Philip Pullman's 'Lyra's Oxford.'

Pink cannot promise all are in print, as these books have been collected through a process of bargaining, op shopping and the rare purchase of a treat.

Pink Reviews
The 2004 Pink Pony Annual Christmas Book Award goes to Philip Pullman's The Golden Compass and Lyra's Oxford. A stunning piece of writing – Pullman writes effortlessly and pulls you into the story. It's just superb and a must-have for every young reader and adult alike.

The Pink Literary Book of the Year goes to The Penguin History of New Zealand by Michael King and Janet Frame: An Autobiography (published some years ago). Both these books are must-haves for your library.

The Pink Most Thriller-like can't put down book goes to Margaret Atwood's Oryx and Crake. Atwood's take on GE, climate change mixed in with sci-fi is a nail biter.
Another must-have.

The Pink Geek Book 2004 goes to Getting a Grip on the Paper War. My new bible. Can't leave home without it. This has kept Pink on the straight no in-tray path.

The Pink Pony Fashion Book 2004 goes to the Hutton Getty Photo Collection – especially 1940's. A real eye-opener.

The Pink Pony Fashion Guide to PR goes to Secrets and Lies by Nicky Hager.
Get one.

The Pink Pony Star Gazing Book 2004 goes to Paul Taylor's gorgeous wee book on our solar system in the deep south of the earth. It's a real gem.

The Pink Pony Real Treat 2004 goes to Madeleine L'engle's A Wrinkle in Time.
Meg and Calvin search in a parallel world for their father. This book was first published in 1962 and if you love Pullman you will love this. Just delightful.

The dolphins are back

A local resident spotted the popular Hectors Dolphin at Warrington Beach near Dunedin early this evening.

A small school of 2-3 dolphins were sighted not far off shore, cruising the length of the beach area, eyeing up the two lonely surfers in the still night.

Warrington Beach is a popular spot for dolphins during the summer months.
